Destination Guide: Vietnam

Vietnam is a land where ancient traditions blend seamlessly with modern luxury and stunning beaches boast the most turquoise waters. The country is eclectic and vibrant, while at the same time steeped in culture, influenced by colonialism, sombered by wars, and known for its heavy history. The capital city of Hanoi is known as Thang Long or “Soaring Dragon” and is diverse, legendary, and traditional. It is arguably one of Asia’s most fascinating and authentic cities that keeps one foot firmly in its past.

Why Vietnam?

Vietnam offers discerning travelers the perfect blend of off-the-beaten-path experiences, authentic charm, luxury accommodations, and high-touch services. A well-executed itinerary can easily combine bustling city life in Hanoi and Saigon (presently known as Ho Chi Min City), with peace and tranquility in the rice patty regions like Mai Chau, and even sandy beaches like Quy Nhon or Con Dao. The destination is perfect for adventurous travelers who are into history, culture, food, wellness, and relaxation.

Getting There.

Buckle up! I always say that the best places are the hardest to get to, and Vietnam is no exception. From the US, you will have a long-haul flight to a major Asian gateway city like Singapore, Tokyo, or Seoul, followed by a shorter flight to Hanoi or Saigon. You can expect at least a 21+ hour travel day from the West Coast of the US, so plan to stay for a while and see it all. We recommend at least a 12-night stay in country!

P.S. Vietnam can easily be combined with Cambodia and/or Laos to extend the itinerary further!

Where to Stay.

Hanoi: Capella Hanoi is a luxurious boutique hotel, with decor inspired by the "Roaring Twenties." The opulent decor and moody lighting give the space a timeless elegance, in the heart of this bustling city.

Four Seasons Resort Nam Hai: Located on the sandy beaches of Ha My in Central Vietnam, the Four Seasons is perfectly positioned for day trips into the charming town of Hoi An - or relaxing with a book by the pool or ocean. We highly recommend grabbing their shopping guide from the front desk and heading into Hoi An for some of the best textile shopping in all of Vietnam!

Zannier Bai San Ho: Quy Nhon is one of the most beautiful beaches in mainland Vietnam, and Zannier offers its guests the best of barefoot luxury. From stylishly designed villas (many with private pools), to delicious local cuisine, and a dramatic spa - this is the perfect way to disconnect for a few days mid-trip.
